Disc blades for every tillage job

Every Hippo disc is pressed to true concavity, heat treated in a controlled furnace and edge-finished on a lathe. Choose a standard size, or send us your drawing or an old disc as a sample.

Plain Disc Blades

Smooth-edge discs for general ploughing and secondary tillage in clean, trash-free fields. Even penetration and low draft.

Notched Disc Blades

A scalloped edge that grips and slices crop residue, stubble and hard, dry soil. The first choice for trashy and no-till conditions.

Cutaway Disc Blades

Deep scallops for heavy trash, sugarcane and matted root zones — aggressive entry where a plain edge simply rides over the surface.

Across India

Which disc for your region

Soil and crop residue change every few hundred kilometres, and the right disc changes with them. This is the advice we give dealers and farmers when they tell us where they are working.

Punjab, Haryana & western Uttar Pradesh

Conditions: Paddy–wheat rotation, combine-harvested, heavy loose stubble on the surface.

What we suggest: Notched 18″–22″ in 5–6 mm on the front gang, plain behind. The notches are what let the gang enter through paddy straw instead of floating on it.

Eastern UP, Bihar & the sugarcane belt

Conditions: Cane trash, old ratoon roots and green matter between crops.

What we suggest: Cutaway 22″–24″ in 6–7 mm. Deep scallops bite through matted trash that stops a shallow notch dead.

Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra & Gujarat

Conditions: Black cotton soil — sticky when wet, sets like concrete when dry.

What we suggest: Our heaviest build — 24″–26″ at 5 mm, deep concavity. Black cotton punishes a thin, flat disc, so take the largest diameter and the full 5 mm gauge.

Rajasthan & the dry western belt

Conditions: Sandy, abrasive soil. Discs die of wear here, not of impact.

What we suggest: Plain discs in the heavier gauge for the diameter. Sand grinds steel away, so section thickness buys you seasons.

Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Tamil Nadu

Conditions: Red and laterite soils, often stony; cotton and groundnut residue.

What we suggest: 20″–24″ notched for the residue, in a tempered disc that survives stone strikes rather than a brittle, over-hardened one.

Steel & Heat Treatment

The metal is the product

A disc fails for one of three reasons: the wrong steel, uneven hardness, or a bad edge. We control all three in-house, so a Hippo disc holds its edge through the season instead of rolling over after a few acres.

Every batch is checked for hardness and concavity before it is painted and packed — and the batch record is kept, so any dealer complaint can be traced back to the furnace.

Inside the Factory

How a Hippo disc is made

Eight controlled steps, from steel sheet to packed disc.

  1. Steel selection

Steel sourced from approved mills, with mill test certificates kept on record.

  2. Blanking

Circles blanked to exact diameter, then the centre hole and bolt holes are punched.

  3. Hot forming

Blanks are heated and pressed to the specified concavity in a die — a true dish, no wobble.

  4. Quench & temper

Controlled furnace hardening, followed by tempering for toughness — not just hardness.

  5. Hardness check

HRC tested batch-wise; concavity and flatness gauged against the master.

  6. Edge lathing

The cutting edge is turned on a lathe for a clean, uniform bevel and better penetration.

  7. Blast & paint

Shot blasted to remove scale, then painted to resist rust in storage and transit.

  8. Pack & dispatch

Counted, strapped and palletised for transport anywhere in India, or for export.

FAQ

Questions dealers & farmers ask

Which disc blade sizes do you manufacture?

We manufacture harrow and plough disc blades from 16″ (406 mm) to 26″ (660 mm) in 3 mm to 5 mm thickness, with plain, notched and cutaway edges. Special sizes are made against your drawing or a sample disc.

What steel do you use for your discs?

We use hardened and tempered steel, quenched and tempered to a working hardness of 42 HRC so the disc holds its edge instead of rolling over. For a specific application or an OEM requirement, the grade can be matched to your specification — tell us the job and we will advise.

Do you supply harrow discs across India?

Yes. We dispatch to dealers, implement manufacturers and farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the rest of India, and we also export.

Can I sell Hippo discs under my own brand?

Yes — private labelling is available for dealers and implement OEMs who order in regular volumes. Your brand can be stamped or printed on the disc and on the packing.

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on the size and edge type. For standard fast-moving sizes we can start small so you can test the quality; custom sizes need a minimum batch. Message us on WhatsApp with the size and quantity for exact terms.

How do I become a Hippo dealer?

Send a WhatsApp message with your name, firm name, city and state, and the products you currently sell. Our dealer desk will share the price list, territory availability and terms the same working day.

Notched or plain — which disc should I use?

Use notched or cutaway discs on the front gang where there is crop residue, stubble or hard dry soil, because the scallops bite and cut trash. Use plain discs on the rear gang and in clean, worked soil for a smoother finish and lower draft.
