Harrow disc blades, 16″ to 26″

Hippo® harrow disc blades are pressed to true concavity, hardened and tempered, and edge-lathed so they cut instead of smearing. Made in Ghaziabad by Dates Discs Pvt. Ltd. — the same factory that has been turning out agricultural and earthmoving steel since 1945.

What a harrow disc actually has to do

A disc harrow disc is doing three jobs at once: cutting into the soil, lifting and turning the slice, and throwing it sideways. It does all of that while being dragged through abrasive grit at several kilometres an hour, thousands of times a minute. That is why a disc fails in only a few ways — the edge rolls over and stops cutting, the disc wears small and the gang loses its depth, or it cracks because the steel was hard but brittle.

We build against all three. The edge is turned on a lathe rather than left as a sheared blank, so it starts sharp and uniform all the way round. The body is quenched and then tempered, which trades a little peak hardness for the toughness that stops a disc cracking on a hidden stone. And every batch is checked for hardness and concavity before it is painted.

Plain or notched — how to choose

This is the question dealers get asked most, and the honest answer depends on what is lying on top of the soil, not on the soil itself.

  • Notched discs cut residue. Paddy stubble, wheat straw, cotton stalks, a hard dry crust — the scallops grab and slice instead of riding over. Standard on the front gang.
  • Plain discs finish. In clean, already-worked soil they pull lighter, leave a smoother seedbed and wear more evenly. Standard on the rear gang.

A very common setup across Punjab, Haryana and western UP is notched in front, plain behind. If you only buy one type, buy notched — a notched disc will do a plain disc's job acceptably, but a plain disc will not cut trash.

Sizes we make as standard

Thickness pairs are the two gauges we normally stock in that diameter. Concavity is nominal. Other diameters, thicknesses, concavities and hole patterns are made to order against your drawing or a sample disc.

Centre holes and fitment

Most Indian disc harrows use a square axle, so the disc needs a square centre hole that matches the gang shaft — commonly 1⅛″, 1¼″ or 1½″ across the flats. Measure the flats of your existing shaft, not the corners. For bolt-on gangs and offset harrows we also make discs with a round bore and countersunk bolt holes.

Not sure of the size? Send one clear photo of the old disc, and a photo of a measuring tape across its face, on WhatsApp. We will tell you the diameter, thickness and hole size.

Steel, hardness and finish

  • Hardened and tempered steel; grade matched to the application on OEM orders
  • Working hardness 42 HRC, tested batch-wise
  • Hot pressed to concavity in a die — a true dish, no wobble on the gang
  • Lathe-cut cutting edge with a uniform bevel
  • Shot blasted and painted black to resist rust in storage and transit
  • Stamped with the Hippo® seal — your proof it came from us

Buying from us

We sell to dealers and distributors, to implement manufacturers, and direct to large farms. Fast-moving sizes are kept in ready stock, and we can start a dealer small so the quality can be tested before a full order. Private labelling is available on regular volumes.

Questions we get asked

What sizes of harrow disc blades do you make?

We make harrow discs from 16″ (406 mm) to 26″ (660 mm), in 3 mm to 5 mm thickness, with plain or notched edges and square or round centre holes. 26″ is our largest diameter.

Should I fit plain or notched discs on my harrow?

Notched discs go on the front gang where there is stubble or hard dry soil, because the scallops bite in and cut trash. Plain discs go on the rear gang and in clean worked soil, where they give a smoother finish and pull lighter.

How do I know which size my disc harrow takes?

Measure the diameter of your old disc across the face, measure the thickness at the centre, and measure the square hole across the flats. Or simply send us a photo of the old disc on WhatsApp and we will identify the size.

Do you supply discs to disc harrow manufacturers?

Yes. We supply implement manufacturers and OEMs in bulk, to drawing, with your own brand stamped on the disc if required.
